Viktor Borisovich Shklovsky[1] (bahasa Rusia: Ви́ктор Бори́сович Шкло́вский; IPA: [ˈʂklofskʲɪj]; 24 Januari [K.J.: 12 Januari] 1893 – 6 Desember 1984) adalah seorang teoretikus sastra, kritikus, penulis dan penulis risalah Rusia dan Soviet. Ia adalah salah satu figur besar yang berasosiasi dengan formalisme Rusia. Shklovsky dikenal sebagai ahli penting dalam teori sastra dan budaya di abad ke-20.[2]

Kehidupan

Shklovsky lahir di St.Peterburg, Rusia. Ayahnya adalah seorang matematikawan Yahudi Lithuania dan ibunya keturunan Jerman-Rusia. Ia berkuliah di Universitas Negeri Sankt Peterburg.

Saat Perang Dunia I, ia menjadi sukarelawan Angkatan Darat Rusia sebagai pelatih pengemudi mobil lapis baja di St. Peterburg. Kemudian pada tahun 1914, ia membentuk OPOYAZ (Obshchestvo izucheniya POeticheskogo YAZyka) atau suatu perkumpulan masyarakat untuk Studi Bahasa Puitis. Selain itu, ia juga menjadi bagian dari Serapion Brothers, sekumpulan penulis yang mulai melakukan pertemuan pada tahu 1921 di St. Peterburg. Kedua kelompok tersebut menyadari bahwa pentingnya sastra tidak hanya terletak pada konten sosial saja melainkan pada penciptaan bahasa yang independen.
