Victor Immanuel Tanja

Victor Immanuel Tanja (31 Mei 1936 – 1 Juli 1998) merupakan seorang penulis dan pendeta berkebangsaan Indonesia. Dia lahir di Pulau Sawu, NTT dan meninggal di Jakarta.

Biografi

Pdt. Victor Immanuel Tanja, MTh, PhD, mengecap pendidikan dasar (Sekolah Dasar) di pulau kelahirannya, Sawu, NTT. Sekolah Lanjutan Pertama ia peroleh di Kupang dan Sekolah Lanjutan Atas di Jakarta. Setelah lulus daru SLTA, ia sempat bekerja selama beberapa tahun di perusahaan minyak Stanvac. Kemudian, pada tahun 1959 melanjut ke Sekolah Tinggi Theologia Jakarta, dan meraih gelar Sarjana Theologia pada 1965. Setelah itu, ia ditahbiskan menjadi pendeta yang melayani jemaat Gereja Protestan Indonesia Bagian Barat (GPIB) di Bogor, Jawa Barat.

Pusat Data Ensikonesia (Ensiklopedia Tokoh Indonesia) mencatat, tahun 1967, ia bertugas sebagai dosen mata kuliah agama Kristen di Perguruan Tinggi Ilmu Kepolisian dan Staf Komando Angkatan Kepolisian Republik Indonesia. Setelah beberapa tahun melayani sebagai pendeta dan dosen, Victor meninggalkan tanah air untuk melanjutkan pendidikan pascasarjana di Amerika Serikat. Ia memperoleh gelar Master of Sacred Theology (STM) dari Christian Theological Seminary di Indianapolis, Indiana, USA, 1972.

Kemudian sejak September 1973 melanjut ke program S3 pada Hartford Seminary Foundation, Hartford, Connecticut, AS dan berhasil meraih gelar Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), 1979. Kemudian, ia kembali ke tanah air. Pernah menjabat Dekan Fakultas Theologia Universitas Kristen Satya Wacana di Salatiga dan juga menjabat Direktur PPPT GPIB, 1982-1986 dan dosen STT Jakarta.

Ia seorang penulis yang kreatif. Karya tulisnya antara lain: Pluralisme Agama dan Problema Sosial (Pustaka Cidesindo, 1997); Spiritualitas, Pluralitas dan Pembangunan di Indonesia (BPK Gunung Mulia, 1994); Tiada Hidup Tanpa Agama (BPK Gunung Mulia, 1988); dan Himpunan Mahasiswa Islam (Penerbit Sinar Harapan, 1982). Ia juga menjadi penerjemah dari buku Gunnar Myrdal, Objektivitas Penelitian Sosial (LP3ES, 1982).
