V. Raghavan

Venkataraman Raghavan (1908–1979) adalah seorang cendekiawan dan musikolog Sansekerta. Ia merupakan penerima sejumlah penghargaan, yang meliputi Padma Bhushan dan Penghargaan Sahitya Akademi untuk Sansekerta, dan mengarang lebih dari 120 buku dan 1200 artikel.[1]

Ia mengarang beberapa buku tentang musik dan aestetik dalam bahasa Sansekerta.[2]

Pada 1963, ia menyunting dan menerjemahkan Śṛṅgāra-prakāśa karya Bhoja, sebuah risalah 36 bab yang menyinggung puisi dan dramaturgi, dan karya terbesar yang dikenal dalam puisi Sansekerta.[3] Untuk karya tersebut dan komentarnya, ia memenangkan Penghargaan Sahitya Akademi untuk Sansekerta pada 1966. Ia dianugerahi Jawaharlal Nehru Fellowship pada 1969.[4] Karya tersebut kemudian diterbitkan sebagai volume 53 dari Harvard Oriental Series pada 1998.

Ia menerjemahkan drama pertama Rabindranath Tagore, Valmiki Pratibha, ke dalam bahasa Sansekerta, yang berkisah tentang peralihan Valmiki dari seorang bandit menjadi seorang penyair.[5]

Ia menemukan dan menyunting sebuah permainan panggung Sansekerta kuno, Udatta Raghavam karya Mayuraja.[1]

Ia mendirikan sebuah organisasi, Samskrita Ranga pada 1958, yang mengurusi teater Sansekerta dan menerapkan permainan panggung Sansekerta.[5]
