Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG) merupakan perguruan tinggi swasta yang berlokasi di Jl. Sumatera No. 101 GKB, Kabupaten Gresik, Jawa Timur, Indonesia. UMG mulai berdiri pada 25 Mei 1980 dan diresmikan oleh Bupati Kabupaten Gresik Bapak Kolonel Wasiadji, SH.
Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik didirikan sebagai upaya meningkatkan amal usaha Muhammadiyah dibidang pendidikan tinggi, karena pada saat itu di daerah Kabupaten Tingkat II Gresik belum ada Perguruan Tinggi. Berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Pimpinan Daerah Muhammadiyah Kabupaten Gresik Majelis Pendidikan Pengajaran dan Kebudayaan Nomor: E.1/017-V/1980 tanggal 25 Mei 1980, berdirilah Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik yang peresmiannya dilakukan oleh Bupati KDH Tingkat II Kabupaten Gresik Bapak Kolonel Wasiadji, S.H yang juga sebagai pelindung. Berlokasi di Perguruan Muhammadiyah Jl. Kh. Kholil No. 90 Gresik.
Sejak tahun 1983 Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik mengajukan status terdaftar ke Kopertis Wilayah VI (sekarang Wilayah VII). Atas petunjuk Kopertis Wilayah VII dan kesepakatan bersama antara Pimpinan IKIP Muhammadiyah Surabaya, Institut Teknologi Muhammadiyah Surabaya dan Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik, Ketiga Perguruan Tinggi tersebut digabungkan berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Mendikbud RI. Nomor: 0141/0/1984 tanggal 9 Maret 1984 menjadi Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya. Di Gresik sendiri diberi nama Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya Kampus Gresik.
1987-1995
Dengan beberapa pertimbangan dan perkembangan, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya Kampus Gresik pada tahun 1987/1988 membuka Fakultas Pertanian dan Fakultas Perikanan. Kedua fakultas tersebut diajukan untuk mendapatkan status terdaftar sebagai Sekolah Tinggi Pertanian Muhammadiyah dan Sekolah Tinggi Perikanan Muhammadiyah Gresik melalui Kopertis Wilayah VII Surabaya. Berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Mendikbud RI Nomor: 0763/0/1989 dan Nomor: 0841/0/1989 kedua Sekolah Tinggi tersebut mendapat Status Terdaftar. Untuk lebih memantapkan pengelolaan fakultas-fakultas yang ada, kedua Sekolah Tinggi tersebut diajukan pengintegrasian menjadi Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik. Berdasarkan Surat Keputusan Mendikbud RI Nomor: 0498/0/1990 tanggal 8 Agustus 1990, pengintegrasian dua Sekolah Tinggi tersebut menjadi Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik.
Fakultas-fakultas dan jurusan Program S-1 yang mendapat Status Terdaftar berdasarkan SK. Mendikbud RI Nomor: 0499/0/1990 tanggal 8 Agustus 1990 adalah:
Dengan adanya status terdaftar beberapa jurusan/program studi, maka pada tahun 1990 Universitas Miuhammadiyah Gresik berpisah dari Universitas Muhammadiyah Surabaya.
1995-2019
Perkembangan selanjutnya, pada tahun 1995/1996 Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik menempati kampus baru hingga sekarang yang berlokasi di Jl. Sumatra 101 GKB Randu Agung Gresik. Pada tahun 2015 Fakultas dan Program Studi aktif di Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik (UMG) adalah:

Pada April 2019, Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik melakukan penggabungan Perguruan Tinggi Swasta (PTS) dengan mengakusisi tiga Tiga [Sekolah Tinggi Ilmu Kesehatan (STIKES) yakni STIKES Delima Persada, Akbid Delima Persada dan STIKES Insan Unggul. Ketiga STIKES ini menjadi Fakultas Kesehatan di Universitas Muhammadiyah Gresik. Selain itu juga terdapat penambahan beberapa Program Studi baru.
