Unimog

Unimog adalah truk multiguna dengan ukuran menengah dan menggunakan penggerak 4 roda yang diproduksi oleh Mercedes-Benz, sebuah divisi dari Daimler AG. Di Amerika Serikat dan Kanada, Unimog dijual dengan nama Freightliner Unimog. Nama Unimog diucapkan [ˈuːnɪmɔk] di Jerman dan merupakan singkatan dari bahasa Jerman "UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät". "Gerät" menjadi kata Jerman untuk merujuk pada mesin atau perangkat. Daimler-Benz mengambil alih pembuatan Unimog pada tahun 1951 dan mereka saat ini membangun pabrik truk Mercedes di Wörth am Rhein, Jerman.^[1] Jenis lainnya seperti Mercedes-Benz Türk A.Ş, merakit Unimogs di Aksaray, Turki.^[2] Unimog juga dirakit di Argentina sampai tahun 1980-an, di pabrik González Catan.

Unimog dapat dibeli dengan dua seri.

Seri Medium 405, juga dikenal sebagai UGN ("Geräteträger" atau operator peralatan), tersedia dalam U200 dari model U500.^[3]^:4
Seri Berat 437, juga dikenal sebagai UHN ("Hochgeländegängig" atau sangat mobile di lintas alam), tersedia dalam model U4000 dan U5000.^[4]

Model pertama dirancang tak lama setelah Perang Dunia Kedua untuk digunakan dalam pertanian untuk mengoperasikan gergaji di hutan atau mesin panen di sawah. Ini dirancang dengan ban roda permanen, berukuran sama, untuk dikendarai di jalan dengan kecepatan tinggi dari traktor pertanian standar.

Karena kemampuan off-roadnya, Unimog dapat ditemukan di hutan-hutan, gunung dan padang pasir sebagai kendaraan militer, pemadam kebakaran, ekspedisi berkemah, dan bahkan dalam kompetisi seperti percobaan truk dan Reli Dakar. Di Eropa Barat, biasanya digunakan sebagai kendaraan saat salju, operator peralatan kota, alat pertanian, peralatan konstruksi dan pengangkut kendaraan di jalan rel.
