Tupinambá

Tupinambá adalah salah satu dari berbagai kelompok etnis Tupi yang menghuni Brasil sebelum ditaklukan oleh penjajah Portugis. Tupinambá tinggal di São Luis do Maranhão.[1] Bahasa mereka masih ada hingga kini dalam bentuk Nheengatu.
Kebiasaan Tupinambá dideskripsikan dalam Cosmographie universelle (1572) karya André Thevet dan Histoire d'un voyage faict en la terre du Brésil (1578) karya Jean de Léry. Mereka menginspirasi Des Cannibales (Essais, Buku 1, Bagian 31) dan memengaruhi pembuatan mitos "bon sauvage" selama Abad Pencerahan.
