Tradisi atau kebiasaan (bahasa Latin: traditio, "diteruskan") adalah sebuah bentuk perbuatan yang dilakukan berulang-ulang dengan cara yang sama dan cenderung terjadi secara tidak sadar.[1] Kebiasaan yang diulang-ulang ini dilakukan secara terus menerus karena dinilai bermanfaat bagi sekelompok orang, sehingga sekelompok orang tersebut melestarikannya. Kata "Tradisi" diambil dari bahasa latin ''Tradere'' yang bermakna mentransmisikan dari satu tangan ke tangan lain untuk dilestarikan. Tradisi secara umum dikenal sebagai suatu bentuk kebiasaan yang memiliki rangkaian peristiwa sejarah kuno. Setiap tradisi dikembangkan untuk beberapa tujuan, seperti tujuan politis atau tujuan budaya dalam beberapa masa.[2]

Jika kebiasaan sudah diterima oleh masyarakat dan dilakukan secara berulang, maka segala tindakan yang bertentangan dengan kebiasaan akan dirasakan sebagai perbuatan yang melanggar hukum.[3]
