Toponimi

Toponimi adalah bidang keilmuan dalam linguistik yang membahas tentang asal-usul penamaan nama tempat, wilayah,[1] atau suatu bagian lain dari permukaan bumi, termasuk yang bersifat alam (sungai, lautan, dan pegunungan) yang buatan (kota, gedung, jalan, jembatan).[2] Toponimi berkaitan dengan bidang etnologi dan kebudayaan. Pada beberapa kasus, nama-nama jalan berkaitan dengan sejarah, mitos, maupun legenda suatu tempat. Beberapa sistem penamaan jalan di Indonesia banyak diadopsi melalui nama-nama pahlawan di nusantara.

Toponimi berasal dari bahasa Yunani tópos (τόπος) yang berarti tempat dan diikuti oleh ónoma (ὄνομα) yang berarti nama.
