Tiktok adalah keturunan persilangan antara itik pelari/bebek pelari betina dan itik serati jantan (juga dikenal dan biasa disebut mentok/entok) yang merupakan spesies dalam keluarga bebek. Tiktok merupakan akronim dari itik yang bermaksud itik betina pelari dan entok yang merupakan spesies itik jantan berbobot besar. Persilangan ini biasanya terjadi bukan karena proses alamiah, melainkan proses yang sengaja dilakukan oleh manusia untuk kepentingan dan tujuan tertentu, mengingat tiktok adalah persilangan antara itik/bebek pelari betina dengan bebek entok jantan yang hampir tidak mungkin terjadi secara alami mengingat postur tubuh kedua unggas tersebut sangat berbeda jauh. Lain halnya persilangan antara bebek entok betina dengan bebek ternak pelari jantan yang bisa terjadi secara alami karena postur bebek jantan yang lebih ramping dari entok betina, persilangan antara bebek ternak pelari jantan dan bebek entok betina disebut tongki atau brati.[1]
Itik dan entok sebenarnya bukan spesies baru, bila ditelusuri lebih lanjut, fosil unggas air ini telah ditemukan pada zaman mesozoik sekitar 80 juta tahun silam. Ketika peradaban manusia tumbuh, unggas air ini menjadi dekat dengan manusia sebagai sumber makanan ataupun sebagai objek perburuan.
Hasil persilangan antara keduanya pun sebenarnya sudah cukup lama dikenal oleh manusia, termasuk di Nusantara sendiri. Di Indonesia hasil persilangan antara kedua jenis unggas ini (tanpa membedakan jenis kelamin dari induk persilangan) dikenal dengan sebutan serati, beranti atau brati, togri, ritog, tongki, mandalung, pandalungan dan lain sebagainya.
Tiktok di Indonesia banyak dipelihara dan dibudidayakan sebagai hewan ternak pedaging karena dagingnya yang dikenal enak dan gurih.[2][3]
