The Day of The Doctor adalah sebuah episode spesial dari serial televisi sains fiksi Inggris berjudul Doctor Who dari saluran BBC untuk merayakan ulang tahun kelima puluh dari serial tersebut.[1][2] Episode ini ditulis oleh Steven Moffat, yang juga menjabat sebagai produser eksekutif bersama Faith Penhale.[1][3] Episode ini ditayangkan secara serentak pada tanggal 23 November 2013 di 94 negara dalam format 2D dan 3D, serta ditayangkan dalam format 3D di beberapa bioskop.[4][5][5] Episode ini juga memecahkan Guinness World Records untuk penayangan drama televisi terluas.[5]

Episode Pendek

Sebelum The Day of The Doctor ditayangkan, BBC merilis dua episode pendek berjudul "The Night of The Doctor" pada tanggal 14 November 2013 dan "The Last Day" pada tanggal 21 November 2013.[6][7] Kedua episode pendek tersebut ditulis oleh Steven Moffat, dan bercerita mengenai peristiwa yang terjadi dalam Perang Waktu antara Time Lords dan Daleks.[6][7]

Dalam "The Night of The Doctor", Paul McGann kembali memerankan Eighth Doctor atau Doctor kedelapan, 17 tahun setelah ia terakhir kali muncul dan berperan sebagai he Doctor di televisi.[8] Ia menolak untuk terlibat dalam Time War, dan berusaha untuk menyelamatkan Cass, seorang awak pesawat luar angkasa yang akan jatuh.[9] Namun saat menyadari bahwa sosok penolongnya adalah seorang Time Lord, Cass menolak bantuan dari Eighth Doctor dan memilih untuk mati karena baginya Time Lord tidak berbeda dari Dalek.[9] Keduanya akhir mati saat pesawat tersebut jatuh, namun The Doctor dibangkitkan kembali untuk sementara oleh Sisterhood of Karn.[9] Mereka membujuk The Doctor untuk mengakhiri Time War yang berkepanjangan, dan akhirnya ia pun setuju untuk bergenerasi menjadi sosok War Doctor, yang diperankan oleh John Hurt.[9]

"The Last Day" diceritakan dari sudut pandang seorang tentara Gallifrey dengan kamera tertanam di kepalanya.[10] Ia ditempatkan di Arcadia, dan bertugas untuk mencari tanda-tanda keberadaan Dalek ketika pertahanan Arcadia runtuh dan pasukan Dalek datang menyerang.[10]

Ringkasan Cerita

The Day of The Doctor bermula di tiga alur waktu yang berbeda, dengan tiga sosok the Doctor yang berbeda pula.[11] Pada tahun 2013, Eleventh Doctor yang diperankan oleh Matt Smith dan Clara Oswald menerima panggilan dari UNIT.[11] Mereka bertemu dengan Kate Stewart untuk mengatasi ancaman yang muncul di Galeri Nasional London.[11][12]

Di masa lalu, Perang Waktu antara Time Lord dan Dalek tengah mencapai titik puncak yang membawa kehancuran.[1]War Doctor yang diperankan oleh John Hurt pun bersiap untuk mengakhiri perang tersebut dengan cara menghancurkan kedua belah pihak yang terlibat.[11] Ia mencuri The Moment, sebuah senjata penghancur massal yang memiliki kesadaran sendiri.[11] Untuk memudahkan komunikasi, The Moment mengambil wujud Rose Tyler dalam fase Bad Wolf.[11]

Sementara itu, pada tahun 1562, Tenth Doctor yang diperankan oleh David Tennant tengah berusaha mengambil hati Ratu Elizabeth I.[11] Di saat yang sama, tengah berjalan sebuah plot kudeta yang melibatkan Zygon.[1] Kemudian, muncul sebuah lubang waktu yang mengumpulkan ketiga Doctor tersebut di waktu Elizabeth.[11]

"The Day of The Doctor" ditulis oleh Steven Moffat, yang juga menjabat sebagai kepala penulis naskah dari Doctor Who dan diproduseri oleh Marcus Wilson serta disutradarai oleh Nick Hurran.[13][14] Moffat mulai menulis skrip untuk "The Day of The Doctor" pada akhir 2012 dan mengatakan bahwa dia tidak memproduksi duplikat untuk menjaga kerahasiaan skrip tersebut dan hanya menyimpan versi asli di komputer rumahnya.[15]
