Taye Atske Selassie Amde (bahasa Amhara: ታዬ አጽቀሥላሴ?, lahir 13 Januari 1956)[1] adalah seorang diplomat Etiopia yang saat ini menjabat sebagai Presiden Etiopia ke-6 per 7 Oktober 2024.[2][3][4] Dia telah bekerja sebagai duta besar di berbagai kesempatan di PBB.[5] Sebelumnya ia juga menjabat sebagai Menteri Luar Negeri.

Kehidupan awal dan karier

Taye Atskeselassie lahir di Debarq, Gondar di Provinsi Begemder. Ia lulusan dari Universitas Addis Ababa dan Universitas Lancaster di Inggris dalam bidang Ilmu Politik Hubungan Internasional, dan Studi Strategis.[6] Ia telah bekerja sebagai Wakil Tetap untuk Perserikatan Bangsa-Bangsa mulai tahun 2018.[7][8] Sebelum pengangkatannya di PBB, Taye menjabat sebagai Konsul Jenderal Ethiopia di Los Angeles dengan peran strategis di Washington, D.C., Stockholm, dan terutama sebagai duta besar Ethiopia untuk Mesir.[9] Pada 8 Februari 2024, ia menggantikan Demeke Mekonnen sebagai Menteri Luar Negeri setelah Demeke mengundurkan diri pada 26 Januari.[3]

Pada tanggal 7 Oktober 2024, ia tiba-tiba diangkat menjadi Presiden Ethiopia, menggantikan Sahle-Work Zewde, yang masa jabatannya berakhir di tengah spekulasi dan perdebatan publik. Penunjukan Taye terjadi pada saat yang kritis bagi Ethiopia, dengan tantangan yang signifikan dalam hubungan internasional dan konflik internal.[10][11]
