Taenia saginata (sinonim Taeniarhynchus saginata), umumnya dikenal sebagai cacing pita sapi, adalah cacing pita zoonotik yang termasuk ordo Cyclophyllidea dan genus Taenia. Ini adalah parasit usus pada manusia menyebabkan taeniasis (sejenis kecacingan) dan cysticercosis pada sapi. Sapi adalah host intermediat, di mana perkembangan larva terjadi, sementara manusia adalah host definitif yang membawa cacing dewasa. Hal ini ditemukan secara global dan paling umum di mana sapi diternak dan daging sapi dikonsumsi. Hal ini relatif umum di Afrika, beberapa bagian dari Eropa Timur, Asia Tenggara, Asia Selatan, dan Amerika Latin.[1] Manusia umumnya terinfeksi akibat kebersihan yang buruk. Larva infektif, disebut cysticerci, ditularkan dari konsumsi mentah atau setengah matang daging sapi. Sebagai hermafrodit, setiap segmen tubuh yang disebut proglotid berisi set lengkap dari kedua sistem reproduksi laki-laki dan perempuan. Dengan demikian, reproduksi adalah dengan fertilisasi-diri. Dari manusia, telur berembrio, disebut oncospheres, dilepaskan dengan kotoran dan ditransmisikan ke ternak melalui pakan yang terkontaminasi. Oncospheres berkembang dalam otot, hati, dan paru-paru sapi menjadi cysticerci infektif.[2]
