Suku Selayar

Komunitas Suku Selayar, lebih dikenal sebagai sub-suku Makassar. Dilihat dari budaya, suku Selayar mirip dengan budaya suku Makassar. Bahkan cara hidup dan adat istiadatnya. Adat pernikahan, erang-erang bosara dan masih banyak lagi yang bisa dikatakan sama dengan orang Makassar. Tapi belakangan ini muncul suatu keinginan untuk lepas dari bayang-bayang “Makassar”. Orang Selayar ingin berdiri sendiri sebagai “suku bangsa” yang diakui oleh semua orang sebagai “suku Selayar”. Walaupun suku Selayar menyetakan diri mereka berbeda dari suku Makassar, tapi secara rumpun dan asal usul, kemungkinan besar di antara mereka memiliki sejarah asal-usul dan nenek moyang yang sama. Suku Selayar memiliki bahasa tersendiri, yaitu bahasa Selayar. Bahasa Selayar berbeda dengan Bahasa Makassar. Memang beberapa perbendaharaan kata dalam bahasa Selayar sama dengan bahasa Makassar, tetapi pengucapan dan intonasinya sangatlah berbeda. Dalam bahasa Selayar tidak mengenal kata-kata kasar. Bahasa Selayar mempunyai hubungan dengan bahasa Konjo Pesisir yang dipakai di Kabupaten Bulukumba, Sulawesi Selatan.

Mayoritas agama di Selayar adalah agama islam. Ajaran Islam sangat kuat dalam hati dan pikiran kalangan masyarakat Selayar. Dapat dilihat dari tradisi yang dikombinasikan dengan budaya Islam.

Orang Selayar memiliki karakter yang lembut dan sopan, dan memiliki aturan sosial tersendiri. Aturan itu secara turun temurun diwariskan untuk diterapkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Salah satu aturan sosial itu adalah Kapalli yang berarti pantangan atau larangan. Sesuatu yang tidak boleh dilakukan, karena jika dilakukan akan terjadi hal buruk bagi si pelanggar.

Kapalli dalam suku Selayar:

assalla (menghina orang lain)

anjai’ bangngi (menjahit di malam hari)

akkelong ri pa palluang (bernyanyi di dapur)

attolong ri babaang (duduk di depan pintu)

muliang sa’ra’ allo (pulang saat Magrib)

pattolongi lungang (duduk di bantal)

bonting sampu’ sikali (menikah dengan sepupu satu kali)

a’dopa dopa (tengkurap)

ta’mea menteng (kencing berdiri)

akkanai (bicara kotor)

ambokoi to nganre (meninggalkan orang yang sedang makan)

Rata-rata kehidupan sehari-hari warga Selayar adalah sebagai nelayan. Namun tidak sedikit juga menjadi pedagang dan profesi lainnya
