Suku Pitopang

Pitopang atau ditulis juga sebagai Patopang atau Patapang adalah salah satu klan (marga) Minangkabau. Mitos suku Pitopang jika biasa nya orang suku Pitopang membuat acara, pesta, atau perkawinan akan terjadi hujan. Suku ini tersebar hampir di Kabupaten Limapuluh Kota,Payakumbuh,Tanah Datar,Sawahlunto,Sijunjung Hingga Ke Provinsi Riau Seperti Wilayah Kuantan Singingi,Kampar, Hingga Rokan Hulu.

Etimologi

Kadang-kadang suku ini disebut Patapang, Petopang, Pitapang dan Patopang. Mungkin asal katanya adalah Topang yang berarti Sangga atau Dukung (Penopang/Penumpu). Patapang adalah nama sejenis pohon, ketapang.

Sejarah

Pitopang adalah suku di luar kedua datuk yang-berdasarkan tambo, diklaim sebagai orang yang "membiakkan" suku-suku Minangkabau

Klan suku Pitopang berdasarkan dari sistem keselarasan yang ketiga yang jarang sekali diketahui oleh orang-orang Minang sendiri khususnya, apalagi orang-orang di luar suku bangsa Minang yang mencoba mempelajari adat-istiadat minang itu sendiri.

sistem keselarasan yang ketiga tersebut adalah kelarasan Lareh nan Panjang yang diturunkan oleh Datuak Sakalok Dunia, adik se-ayah berlainan ibu dari Dt. Parpatiah nan Sabatang.
