Substratum Pra-Yunani

Substratum Pra-Yunani adalah sebuah atau sejumlah bahasa yang masih diselubungi misteri yang pernah dituturkan di Yunani pada zaman prasejarah sebelum kedatangan para penutur bahasa Proto-Helenik. Terdapat kemungkinan bahwa bahasa Yunani menyerap sejumlah kata dan nama dari substratum ini, karena beberapa kosa katanya tampaknya tidak hanya berasal dari bahasa Proto-Yunani saja.[1]

Beberapa contoh kata yang mungkin berasal dari substratum pra-Yunani adalah:[2]

  • βόλινθος/βόνασσος, bólinthos/bónassos, 'kerbau liar'
  • κάνθαρος, kántharos, 'kumbang'
  • σμίνθος, smínthos, 'tikus'
