Sonaka

Sonaka (Dewanagari: शौनक; ,IAST: śaunaka, शौनक) adalah nama bagi guru, atau sakha dari Atharwaweda dalam agama Hindu. Nama itu umumnya dikenal sebagai ahli bahasa Sanskerta, penulis Ṛgveda-Prātiśākhya, Bṛhaddevatā, Caraṇa-vyūha, dan Anukramaṇī tentang Regweda. Ia dikenal pula sebagai guru Katyayana dan terutama bagi sakha Aswalayana. Menurut Wisnupurana, Sonaka merupakan putra Gretsamada, dan memprakarsai sistem empat jenjang kehidupan manusia.

Ṛgveda-Prātiśākhya diajarkan oleh Sonaka untuk pertama kali dalam satra-yajna (upacara skala besar selama 12 hari) yang berlangsung di hutan Nemisa.[1][2]

Sonaka juga disebut dalam penuturan wiracarita Mahabharata. Kisah tersebut dinarasikan oleh seorang pencerita bernama Ugrasrawa saat persamuhan para resi yang diadakan oleh Sonaka di hutan Nemisa.
