Silenos

Seorang Silenus.

Dalam mitologi Yunani, Silenos (/saɪˈliːnəs/; bahasa Yunani Kuno: Σειληνός, translit. Seilēnós) adalah seorang teman dan pengajar dewa anggur Dionysus. Silenos juga memimpin daimon lain berkaitan dengan kreativitas musik, ekstasi kenabian, kegembiraan dalam keadaan mabuk, tarian dan gerak tubuh dalam keadaan mabuk.[1]

Dalam mitologi

Silenos adalah mahluk berbadan manusia tetapi memiliki telinga (dan kadang-kadang dengan ekor dan kaki) kuda.[2] Silenos sangat menyukai minuman anggur dan selalu dalam keadaan mabuk sehingga dia harus selalu disokong oleh Satir atau dibawa oleh keledai. Silenos digambarkan sebagai pengikut Dionisos yang paling bijak, paling tua, dan paling pemabuk. Dalam mitos Orfik, dia disebut sebagai guru Dionisos.[3]

Kebijaksanaan

Salah satu tema dalam filsafat dan sastra Yunani adalah kebijaksanaan Silenos yang mengemukakan filsafat antinatalisme:

Anda, yang paling diberkati dan paling bahagia di antara manusia, mungkin akan menganggap mereka yang telah meninggal dunia sebelum Anda sebagai orang-orang yang diberkati dan paling bahagia, dan Anda bahkan mungkin akan menganggap bahwa mengatakan sesuatu yang buruk atau salah tentang mereka adalah suatu pelanggaran hukum, karena mereka sekarang telah berubah menjadi lebih baik dan lebih halus. Pemikiran ini sudah sangat tua sampai orang yang pertama kali mengucapkannya sudah tidak dikenal lagi; hal ini telah diwariskan kepada kita sejak lama, dan oleh karena itu tidak diragukan lagi kebenarannya.
