Seniman kelaparan

Seniman yang kelaparan adalah seniman yang mengorbankan kesejahteraan materiil untuk berfokus pada karya seni mereka.^[1] Mereka biasanya hidup dengan pengeluaran minimum, baik karena kurangnya pendapatan atau karena semua pendapatan mereka digunakan untuk proyek seni. Istilah aktor kelaparan dan musisi kelaparan juga sering digunakan secara khusus untuk aktor dan musisi.

Beberapa seniman yang kelaparan menginginkan kesuksesan seperti kebanyakan orang, tetapi mengalami kesulitan karena hambatan yang tinggi untuk masuk di bidang-bidang seperti seni visual, industri film, dan teater. Seniman ini sering mengambil posisi sementara seperti pelayan atau pekerjaan industri jasa lainnya sementara mereka memusatkan perhatian mereka dengan "menerobos" di bidang pilihan mereka.

Sebiman yang kelaparan adalah sosok Romantisisme akhir abad ke-18 dan awal abad ke-19 yang ditampilkan dalam banyak lukisan dan karya sastra. Pada tahun 1851, Henri Murger menulis tentang empat seniman kelaparan di Scènes de la Vie de Bohme, yang menadasari opera berjudul La bohème oleh Puccini dan Leoncavallo. Novel Knut Hamsun yang dubuat tahun 1890, Hunger, menampilkan seorang seniman yang kelaparan sebagai protagonis. Pada tahun 1922, Franz Kafka menulis sebuah cerita pendek berjudul "Seorang Seniman Kelaparan" tentang seorang pria yang menjadi terkenal karena menampilkan pertunjukan menahan lapar di depan umum.
