Seni dekoratif atau seni ornamen adalah dekorasi yang digunakan untuk memperindah dari sebuah bangunan, tembok atau objek-objek tertentu. Ornamen arsitektural dapat dilukis atau diukir dari batu, kayu atau logam mulia dibentuk dengan plester atau tanah liat yang terkesan kepermukaan sebagai ornamen dalam seni terapan lainnya.

Berbagai gaya seni dekoratif dan motif telah dikembangkan untuk lukisan, mural, relief, patung, arsitektur dan seni terapan, termasuk tembikar, mebel, keramik, logam, tekstil, kertas, dinding dan benda-benda lain.

Jenis-jenis seni dekoratif

  • Seni dekoratif figuratif

Seni dekoratif figuratif merupakan jenis seni menghias yang meniru bentuk-bentuk atau figur dari alam.Bentuk-bentuk ini dapat berupa manusia dengan ragam jenis dan kegiatannya, binatang dengan berbagai wujudnya, tumbuhan atau tanaman, atau pemandangan-pemandangan alam seperti laut, gunung, bukit, dan lain sebagainya.

  • Seni dekoratif geometris

Seni dekoratif geometris merupakan jenis seni menghias berupa bentuk-bentuk geometri.Berbeda dengan seni dekoratif figuratif yang mana seni dekorasi jenis ini lebih cenderung tidak terikat pada bentuk-bentuk alam dan realita yang nyata.[1]

  • Fungsi murni estetis

Fungsi murni estetis tujuannya memperintah penampilan bentuk produk yang dihiasi menjadi karya seni.

  • Fungsi simbolis

Fungsi simbolis adalah fungsi yang banyak dijumpai pada produk benda upacara adat dan terkait dengan keagamaan dan kepercayaan.

  • Fungsi teknis konstruktif

Teknik konstruktif adalah teknis yang berfungsi menyangga, menopang, menghubungkan, atau memperkokoh konstruksi.[2]
