Semut pudak (Tapinoma melanocephalum) adalah salah satu jenis semut yang berukuran kecil, tubuhnya langsing, kepala berwarna cokelat tua, kemerah-merahan atau hitam, dan menyukai manisan.[1] Semut pekerja berukuran sangat kecil yaitu antara 1,3mm hingga 1,5 mm untuk panjang.[2] Antena serangga ini terdiri dari 12 segmen.[2] Segmen antena semakin ke ujung semakin tebal.[2] Bagian scapes antennal melampaui perbatasan oksipital.[2] Kepala dan dada berwarna coklat gelap dengan gaster dan kaki berwarna buram atau putih susu.[2] Semut pudak merupakan spesies tropis yang sudah dikenal luas dan diperkenalkan di seluruh dunia meskipun jangkauan aslinya tidak diketahui.[3] Hewan ini dapat ditemukan mana-mana pada tempat tinggal tanpa pendingin udara di daerah tropis dan dataran rendah.[3] Species ini ditemukan 35 kali ditemukan di perkotaan, 52 kali ditemukan di hutan basah, 35 kali ditemukan di semak belukar pesisir, 13 kali ditemukan di kebun perkotaan, 10 kali ditemukan di semak-semak sekunder dan beragam vegetasi, 19 kali ditemukan di hutan kering, 18 kali ditemukan di hutan terganggu, 8 kali ditemukan di hutan kering tropis, 11 kali ditemukan di hutan sekunder, dan 10 kali ditemukan di hutan basah pegunungan.[3]
