Selancar raga

Selancar raga adalah seni dan olah raga mengendarai ombak tanpa bantuan alat apung apa pun seperti papan selancar atau papan linyar. Para peselancar raga sering kali melengkapi diri mereka dengan sepasang sirip renang yang membantu tenaga penggerak dan membantu peselancar tubuh menangkap, mengendarai, dan menendang ombak. Beberapa peselancar raga juga menggunakan pesawat tangan kayu atau busa, yang membantu mengeluarkan dada dari air untuk mengurangi hambatan, yang dikenal dengan memesawat tangan dan merupakan cabang dari selancar raga.

Beberapa ombak terbaik untuk selancar raga adalah ombak pantai yang curam, cepat, dan berbentuk pipa yang sering kali tidak cocok untuk selancar papan; dua yang paling terkenal adalah Sandy Beach dan Makapuu di pantai timur Oahu di Hawaii. The Wedge, di Pantai Newport, Kalifornia, merupakan puncak gelombang pasir yang ganas yang digambarkan dengan tepat oleh Sports Illustrated pada tahun 1971 sebagai "terobosan pantai yang sangat besar", selama beberapa dekade telah menjadi ombak paling menakutkan dan terkenal dalam selancar raga. Wilayah lain dengan ombak selancar raga kelas dunia antara lain Hossegor (Prancis), Puerto Escondido (Meksiko), dan Nazaré (Portugal).

Kontes

Selancar raga tidak memiliki sirkuit atau liga kontes yang terorganisir, atau kejuaraan dunia yang pasti. Namun, sejumlah kecil kontes individu telah lama diikuti oleh sekelompok kecil peselancar raga penuh waktu internasional. Dua acara terbesar, keduanya didirikan pada tahun 1977, adalah Oceanside World Bodysurfing Championship, yang diadakan pada pertengahan musim panas, dan Pipeline Bodysurfing Classic, yang biasanya diadakan pada bulan Januari. Pipeline Classic, yang telah lama dianggap sebagai kontes olahraga paling bergengsi, menjadi kontes selancar raga profesional pertama pada tahun 1980, tetapi segera kembali ke status amatir setelah penyelenggara tidak dapat menemukan sponsor. ^[1]
