Sekolah rumah selama pandemi COVID-19 menjadi sebuah harapan semasa pandemi COVID-19. Sekolah rumah (homeschooling) merupakan sebuah metode belajar mengajar yang dilaksanakan di rumah berbasis keluarga. Prinsip dalam sekolah rumah yaitu keluarga bertanggung jawab atas pendidikan anaknya dan menjadikan rumah sebagai basis pendidikannya.[1]

Penyebaran COVID-19 yang cepat membuat banyak sekolah ditutup guna untuk menghindari virus corona. Pada saat sekolah ditutup, orang tua, guru, dan siswa merasakan efek dari pandemi COVID-19. Sistem pendidikan berusaha untuk menyediakan pendidikan yang berkualitas selama pandemi COVID-19. Beralihnya sistem pendidikan dengan menerapkan sistem pembelajaran jarak jauh secara daring sebagai upaya menyertakan siswa dalam kegiatan pembelajaran. Sistem pembelajaran jarak jauh mengakibatkan banyak siswa yang mengalami tekanan psikologis dan emosional dikarenakan kurangnya interaksi sosial dengan guru maupun teman sebayanya, sehingga menurunkan motivasi belajar siswa.[2] Para siswa mengeluhkan terlalu lama menatap layar perangkat membuat merasa cepat lelah dan tidak dapat memahami materi yang disampaikan.[3]

Sekolah rumah merupakan alternatif dikala terjadinya pandemi COVID-19. Penerapan sekolah rumah sebagai upaya memenuhi hak siswa dalam ranah pendidikan selama pandemi COVID-19. Sekolah rumah dapat membantu meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan selama pandemi COVID-19.[4] Dalam pelaksanaannya, sekolah rumah memberikan kebebasan kepada siswa dalam menciptakan suasana belajar sesuai kondisi yang diinginkannya dengan tujuan untuk membuat pembelajaran menjadi lebih nyaman dan menyenangkan. Sekolah rumah pada model pendidikannya melibatkan peran orang tua dalam hal memperhatikan dan mendampingi anak baik dalam cara belajarnya, materi pempelajaran, dan juga dalam hal evaluasi. Orang tua membutuhkan usaha ekstra untuk memahami dan berkomunikasi dengan sang anak.[1] Orang tua dapat memposisikan sebagai sahabat anak guna membangun keakrabakan sehingga anak merasa nyaman dan tidak mengalami tekanan baik dari aspek psikologis maupun emosional.[5]
