Scutum adalah rasi bintang yang diperkenalkan pada abad ketujuh belas.

Sejarah

Rasi bintang Scutum dapat di lihat pada bulan Agustus dan dapat dilihat dengan mata telanjang.

Scutum ditemukan pada tahun 1684 oleh astronom Polandia Johannes Hevelius.^[1]

Lima bintang yang ada Scutum (α Sct, β Sct, δ Sct, ε Sct dan η Sct) sebelumnya dikenal sebagai 1, 6, 2, 3, dan 9 Aquilae masing-masing.^[2]

Bintang yang ada di Konstelasi Scutum

Scutum bukan konstelasi bintang yang cerah, dengan bintang paling terang, Alpha Scuti, dengan magnitudo 3,85. Tetapi beberapa bintang terkenal di konstelasi. Beta Scuti adalah yang paling terang kedua pada magnitudo 4,22, diikuti oleh Delta Scuti pada magnitudo 4,72. Beta Scuti adalah sistem biner, dengan primer dengan tipe spektral yang mirip dengan Matahari, meskipun 1.270 kali lebih terang. Delta Scuti adalah bintang raksasa putih kebiruan, yang sekarang datang ke arah Tata Surya. Dalam 1,3 juta tahun akan mendekati 10 tahun cahaya dari Bumi, dan akan jauh lebih terang daripada Sirius pada saat itu.

UY Scuti adalah bintang raksasa merah dan salah satu bintang terang yang saat ini dikenal dengan jari jari lebih dari 1.500 kali dari Matahari.

Stephenson 2-18 adalah bintang terbesar di jagat raya (sebelumnya UY Scuti) dengan jari jari lebih dari 2.150 kali dari Matahari.

Eksplorasi

Misi eksplorasi yang dilakukan yaitu Pioneer 11. Pioneer 11 tidak melewati bintang terdekat, membutuhkan waktu yang lama untuk sampai ke Rasi Scutum yaitu 1 juta tahun lamanya.^[3] pada kecepatan saat ini, pada saat itu baterainya akan lama mati.
