ScienceDirect adalah sebuah situs web yang menyediakan akses ke basis data bibliografik ilmiah dan kesehatan milik penerbit asal Belanda, Elsevier. ScienceDirect mencakup 18 juta konten dari lebih dari 4.000 jurnal akademik dan 30.000 e-book milik Elsevier.[2][3] Akses ke teks penuh memerlukan langganan, tetapi metadata bibliografik dapat diakses secara gratis. ScienceDirect dioperasikan oleh Elsevier. ScienceDirect diluncurkan pada bulan Maret 1997.[4]

Penggunaan

Jurnal dikelompokkan ke dalam empat bagian utama, yakni Ilmu Kedokteran & Rekayasa, Ilmu Hayati, Ilmu Kesehatan, dan Ilmu Sosial & Humaniora. Abstrak artikel dapat diakses secara gratis, tetapi akses ke teks penuhnya (dalam format PDF, dan, untuk publikasi yang lebih baru, juga dalam format HTML) secara umum memerlukan langganan atau pembelian pay-per-view, kecuali konten tersebut tersedia secara gratis di akses terbuka.

Langganan ke semua layanan yang disediakan oleh ScienceDirect biasanya dilakukan melalui big deal. Lima penerbit besar lain juga menawarkan hal serupa.

ScienceDirect berkompetisi dengan agregator dan tempat konten komunikasi ilmiah, seperti jaringan sosial akademik ResearchGate dan repositori akses terbuka arXiv, serta dengan tempat publikasi akses terbuka dan mega journal, seperti PLOS.
