Sauropelta adalah dinosaurus lapis baja yang termasuk dalam kelompok herbivor dan hidup pada 121—94 juta tahun yang lalu.^[1] Sauropelta hidup pada zaman kretaseus dan mendiami benua Amerika Utara. Sauropelta termasuk hewan yang bereproduksi dengan cara bertelur. Fosilnya banyak ditemukan di wilayah Wyoming dan Colorado.^[2] Nama Sauropelta diberikan pada tahun 1970 oleh John Ostrom. Panjang Sauropelta mencapai 6,6 meter dan memiliki duri bahu yang besar.^[1]

Panjang Sauropelta mencapai 6,6 meter dan memiliki duri bahu yang besar.^[1] Sauropelta memiliki lapis baja di seluruh tubuhnya yang berfungsi melindunginya dari pemangsa. Selain itu, Sauropelta memiliki ekor yang panjangnya sama dengan setengah ukuran tubuhnya. Kaki belakang Sauropelta lebih panjang dari kaki depannya.^[3]
