Santa Cruz (Spanish for "Salib Suci") adalah kota terbesar dan ibu kota county dari Santa Cruz County, di California Utara. Pada sensus 2020, populasi kota adalah 62.956.[10] Terletak di tepi utara Monterey Bay, Santa Cruz adalah tujuan wisata yang populer, karena pantainya, budaya selancar, dan penunjuk bersejarahnya.

Santa Cruz didirikan oleh Spanyol pada tahun 1791, ketika Fermín de Lasuén mendirikan Mission Santa Cruz. Segera setelah itu, pemukiman tumbuh di dekat misi yang disebut Branciforte, yang kemudian dikenal di seluruh Alta California karena pelanggaran hukumnya. Dengan sekularisasi misi California di Meksiko pada tahun 1833, misi sebelumnya dibagi dan diberikan sebagai hibah rancho. Menyusul Penaklukan California Amerika, Santa Cruz akhirnya didirikan sebagai kota pada tahun 1866.
