Sancha dan Alfonso

Sancha dari Kastilia (21 September 1154/5 – 9 November 1208) merupakan putri tunggal Raja Alfonso VII dari León dan Kastilia dan ratu keduanya, Richeza dari Polandia, putri Władysław II Wygnaniec, Adipati Agung Polandia dan pemimpin Silesia dan istrinya Agnes dari Babenberg.

Pada tanggal 18 Januari, 1174 ia menikah dengan Raja Alfonso II dari Aragon di Zaragoza.

Akibat ulah pengamen Giraud de Calanson dan Peire Raymond, ratu kemudian terlibat di dalam sengketa hukum dengan suaminya mengenai wilayah yang merupakan bagian dari mas kawinnya. Pada tahun 1177 ia memasuki wilayah Ribagorza dan mengambil paksa hartanya yang terdiri dari beberapa kastil dan benteng yang dimiliki oleh para bangsawan di sana.

Setelah kematian suaminya di Perpignan pada tahun 1196, Sancha dipindahkan dari masalah politik oleh putranya Pero II, dan ia mengundurkan diri dari istana, pergi ke sebuah biara di Nuestra Senora, di Sijena, yang ia bangun. Di sana ia membuat sebuah salib dari Ordo Santo Yohanes dari Yerusalem yang dikenakannya sampai akhir hayatnya. Ibu suri menghibur putrinya yang telah menjanda Ratu Gonstanza dari Aragon (1179-1222) di Sijena karena kepergiannya dari Aragon untuk menikah dengan Kaisar Frederick II pada tahun 1208. Ia meninggal tak lama kemudian pada usia 54 tahun, dan dimakamkan di bawah altar sebuah gereja di Sijena.
