Ratu Ayu Mekulem atau Dewi Ayu Pingit Mas Mekulem adalah putri Bhatara Kehen yang menjadi salah satu selir Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat. Ia bertugas untuk menyajikan makanan bagi suaminya setiap perayaan odalannya, yaitu pada saat tilem (bulan baru) setiap bulannya. Makanan yang dihidangkan berupa makanan kesukaan Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat, yaitu nasi kukus yang diberi bawang goreng dan air jeruk limau. Nasi yang dihidangkan dicampur dengan beras yang diperoleh dari Jehem miliknya.[1]

Setiap upacara keagamaan di Pura Pancering Jagat Terunyan selalu diramaikan dengan memukul kulkul ("kentongan") dengan maksud membangunkan Ratu Ayu Mekulem. Nama mekulem sendiri memiliki arti "tidur".[1] Sang dewi bertugas untuk memasak hidangan bagi suaminya dan paru tamu dari suaminya. Beras yang digunakan berasal dari setiap rumah di Trunyan yang dicampur beras dari sawah di Jehem. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa Ratu Ayu Mekulem memiliki peran penting dalam mempersatukan seluruh lapisan penduduk Trunyan dan antara Desa Trunyan dengan Kehen.[2]

Stana Ratu Ayu Mekulem di Pura Pancering Jagat Terunyan tidak terletak di Halaman Jeroan (bagian terdalam dan tersuci), melainkan di Halaman Jaba Tengah pada komplek Pura Maospait.

Legenda

Ratu Ayu Mekulem merupakan salah satu putri dari Bhatara Kehen. Pada saat pernikahannya dengan Ratu Sakti Pancering Jagat, ia diberi hadiah pernikahan oleh ayahnya berupa area persawahan seluas dua sikut di Jehem, dekat Kehen.[1]

Pada suatu ketika, Dewi Danu murka karena didenda Bhatara Kehen saat melintasi wilayah yang dikuasai sang dewa. Akibatnya, ia menghentikan aliran air ke Kehen sehingga wilayah tersebut kekurangan air. Untuk mengatasi hal tersebut, Bhatara Kehen memberi beberapa ekor lindung ("belut") besi kepada putrinya untuk dimasukkan ke Danau Batur. Belut-belut tersebut selanjutnya mengebor dinding danau hingga mencapai Kehen sehingga wilayah Kehen dapat kembali memperoleh pengairan.[1]
