Rajput (dari Sansekerta rājaputra yang berarti "Anak Seorang Raja"), disebut juga Thakur,^[6] adalah sekelompok besar kasta, badan kekerabatan, dan kelompok lokal multi-komponen, yang berbagi status sosial dan ideologi keturunan silsilah yang berasal dari anak benua India. Istilah Rajput mencakup berbagai klan patrilineal yang secara historis dikaitkan dengan pejuang: beberapa klan mengklaim status Rajput, meskipun tidak semua klaim diterima secara universal. Menurut para sarjana modern, hampir semua klan Rajput berasal dari komunitas petani atau penggembala.

Seiring waktu, Rajput muncul sebagai kelas sosial yang terdiri dari orang-orang dari berbagai latar belakang etnis dan geografis. Dari abad ke-12 hingga ke-16, keanggotaan kelas ini sebagian besar bersifat turun-temurun, meskipun klaim baru atas status Rajput terus dilakukan pada abad-abad berikutnya. Beberapa Kerajaan yang diperintah Rajput memainkan peran penting di banyak wilayah di tengah dan India utara sejak abad ketujuh dan seterusnya.

Populasi Rajput dan bekas negara bagian Rajput ditemukan di India utara, barat, tengah dan timur serta Pakistan selatan dan timur. Area-area tersebut antara lain Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Punjab Timur, Punjab Barat, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh dan Sindh.
