Rahab dari Yerikho

Rahab, (bahasa Ibrani: רָחָב‎ Raẖav Ibrani Tiberias Rāḥāḇ "lebar" "besar"; bahasa Yunani: Ῥαχάβ atau Ῥαάβ) adalah seorang perempuan yang tinggal di kota Yerikho dan membantu menyembunyikan mata-mata Israel, sehingga ia dan keluarganya tidak ikut terbunuh, saat kota Yerikho direbut oleh bangsa Israel di bawah pimpinan Yosua (Yosua 2; Yosua 5).

Profesi

Hampir semua terjemahan Alkitab menuliskan Rahab sebagai "perempuan sundal" atau "pelacur"[1] (Yosua 2:1). Namun, ada juga yang menterjemahkan sebagai "pemilik penginapan", misalnya Pastor Van der Zee dari gereja puritan[2] Komentator Yahudi abad pertengahan, Rashi, menganggapnya "penjual makanan". Sejarahwan abad pertama Masehi, Flavius Yosefus menulis bahwa Rahab mempunyai penginapan, tetapi tidak menerangkan lebih lanjut apakah ada profesi lain.[3] Di bagian Perjanjian Baru dalam Alkitab Kristen, Surat Yakobus dan Surat Ibrani mengikuti terjemahan Septuaginta dalam bahasa Yunani "πορνη", yang biasanya berarti "pelacur" atau "perempuan sundal" dalam menulis Rahab. Keturunan

Dalam Injil Matius, nama Rahab dicatat sebagai salah satu nenek moyang Yesus (Matius 1:5). Rahab menikah dengan Salmon, dari suku Yehuda, dan melahirkan Boas. Boas kemudian menikah dengan Rut dan menjadi kakek buyut raja Daud. Tidak ada informasi jelas apakah Rahab ini sama dengan Rahab dari Yerikho.[butuh rujukan]
