Q'uq'umatz

Q'uq'umatz (Mayan: [qʔuː qʔuːˈmats]) (ejaan alternatif Qucumatz, Gukumatz, Gucumatz, Gugumatz, Kucumatz) adalah dewa dalam kepercayaan orang Maya K'iche' pada zaman Pascaklasik. Q'uq'umatz adalah dewa Ular Berbulu dalam kisah Popol Vuh. Ia menciptakan manusia bersama dengan dewa Tepeu. Q'uq'umatz dianggap sebanding dengan Quetzalcoatl dalam kepercayaan Aztek,[1] dan juga dengan Kukulkan dalam tradisi Maya Yukatek.[2] Terdapat kemungkinan bahwa dewa ini merupakan serapan dari Aztek atau Yukatek dan dipadukan dengan unsur-unsur dewa lain.[3] Q'uq'umatz awalnya mungkin merupakan dewa yang sama dengan Tohil, yaitu dewa matahari dalam kepercayaan K'iche' yang juga memiliki atribut ular berbulu,[4] tetapi keduanya kemudian menjadi dewa yang terpisah.[5]

Menurut kisah Popul Vuh, Q'uq'umatz adalah salah satu dewa pencipta dunia.[6] Q'uq'umatz adalah dewa angin dan hujan, dan sangat terkait dengan Tepeu, dewa petir dan api.[7] Kedua dewa tersebut dianggap sebagai nenek moyang bangsawan K'iche' melalui garis keturunan laki-laki.[8] Q'uq'umatz membawa matahari di langit dan di dunia bawah, dan ia bertindak sebagai penengah antara berbagai kekuatan di alam semesta.[9]
