Pulau Samber Gelap merupakan salah satu pulau yang terletak di Kabupaten Kotabaru, Provinsi Kalimantan Selatan. Pulau ini memanjang dengan hamparan pasir putih hingga ke perairan dangkal dengan air berwarna hijau muda. Pulau ini termasuk dalam pengawasan Direktorat Jenderal Perhubungan Laut, Distrik Navigasi Kelas II Banjarmasin, Kalimantan Selatan.[1]

Pulau ini berjarak 37 mil laut atau 69 km dari pantai Gedambaan.[2] Pulau ini sering menjadi tempat singgah nelayan jika sedang ada cuaca buruk yang terjadi selama pelayaran. Tidak ada penginapan di pulau ini dikarenakan bukan pulau berpenghuni dan hanya tersedia satu rumah untuk tamu tertentu.[3]

Etimologi

Sebelumnya pulau ini bernama Samargalang, namun berubah menjadi Samber gelap karena pulau ini pernah ditabrak kapal tangker karena tidak ada penerangan di sekitar pulau. Sehingga namanya berubah menjadi Samber gelap yang berarti pulau yang ditabrak kapal karena keadaan gelap.[3]

Namun sumber lain mengatakan bahwa penamaan pulau ini dikarenakan pulau ini akan tersorot mercusuar yang berada di pulau sebelahnya, pulau Sawah. Sehingga pulau ini akan terlihat dari kejauhan pada malam hari jika lampu menyorot dan akan hilang jika lampu mercusuar bergerak ke arah lain.[3]

Atraksi wisata

Pulau ini menjadi salah satu pilihan masyarakat untuk liburan, berenang ataupun snorkeling.[4]

Selain itu, pulau ini juga menjadi wilayah konservasi dan penangkaran penyu hijau dan penyu sisik.[5]

Akses

Untuk menuju pulau ini bisa menggunakan kapal cepat yang terdapat di sekitar pelabuhan Kotabaru. Bisa juga dengan menumpang pada kapal kayu nelayan dengan waktu tempuh sekitar tujuh jam.[3]

Dari pelabuhan Panjang Kotabaru, bisa menumpang speedboat dengan biaya Rp. 200.000 dan ditempuh selama 2 jam perjalanan laut.[6][7]

Pengunjung dilarang memasuki pulau ini pada Januari, Februari dan Maret saat angin bertiup dari arah utara. Juga pada Juni - September saat angin bertiup dari arah tenggara. Hal ini dikarenakan gelombang tinggi dan angin kencang yang dapat membahayakan pelayaran. Bulan yang disarankan untuk berkunjung adalah April, Mei, Oktober, November dan Desember.[8]
