Koordinat: 1°42′38″N 8°45′52″E / 1.71056°N 8.76444°E / 1.71056; 8.76444 Pulau Poncan adalah sebuah pulau di Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah, Sumatera Utara. Letaknya sekitar 7 km dari kota Sibolga. Dengan luas sekitar 500 ha, pulau ini adalah yang terbesar di Kabupaten Tapanuli Tengah.
Menurut catatan sejarah awal, sebelumnya nama pulau ini adalah Pulau Takalo.
Adapun nama "Poncan" berasal dari kata "Pound Change", yang digunakan pada saat masa penjajahan dulu. Tentara Sekutu sering mengatakan 'pound change' sebab sistem perdagangan kala itu di Sibolga yang ingin diubah dari kebiasaan barter barang ke pembayaran uang tunai. Tentara Sekutu yang dipimpin Inggris masa itu ingin masyarakat Indonesia dalam berdagang dapat membayar dengan mata uang poundsterling. Kerap tentara Inggris menyebut kalimat 'pound change' yang berasal dari kata "Pounsterling" dan "Change" untuk mengingatkan mengganti barter barang dengan mata uang poundsterling.
Sayangnya, lafal masyarakat Sibolga ketika itu yang sulit menyebut istilah bahasa asing dan lebih terbiasa dengan kosakata 'Pon Can'. Alhasil, lama kelamaan lafal itu menjadi penyebutan pulau tersebut menurut pelafalan masyarakat pribumi yang dulu berdagang di pulau maupun di sekitarnya.
Pulau Poncan memiliki pantai berpasir putih. Pulau ini menyediakan tempat berkemah dan penginapan.
Pulau Poncan dapat dicapai dengan speedboat sekitar 30 menit dari pelabuhan sibolga.
