Psikologi evolusioner adalah salah satu cabang baru dalam psikologi yang mencoba mempelajari potensi peran dari faktor genetis dalam beragam aspek dari perilaku manusia.[1] Cabang baru dari psikologi ini menyatakan bahwa manusia, seperti makhluk hidup lainnya di planet bumi ini, telah mengalami proses evolusi biologis selama sejarah keberadaannya, dan dari hasil proses ini manusia sekarang memiliki sejumlah besar mekanisme psikologis yang merupakan hasil evolusi yang membantu manusia untuk tetap hidup atau mempertahankan keberadaannya.[1] Dalam kajian percobaan prediksi teoretis, psikologi evolusioner telah memberikan penemuan dalam topik-topik, antara lain pola pernikahan, persepsi kecantikan, kecerdasan, dan lain-lain.[2] Akar sejarah dari psikologi evolusioner adalah teori seleksi alam Charles Darwin[3]
