Pisang tumbuh di sebuah rumah kaca di Islandia

Meski Islandia bergantung pada produksi ikan dan aluminium sebagai sumber utama ekonominya, ada juga produksi pisang di negara ini.[1] Akan tetapi, produksi pisang tidak dilakukan dalam skala komersial, tetapi hanya berupa eksperimen untuk menujukkan bahwa air geyser panas bisa menciptakan iklim yang layak untuk menumbuhkan pisang.

Program kuis BBC QI mengklaim bahwa Islandia adalah produsen pisang terbesar di Eropa.[2][3] Namun per 2010, produsen pisang terbesar di Eropa adalah Spanyol (meski sebagian besar dikonsentrasikan di Kepulauan Canary, di lepas pantai Afrika), diikuti Portugal, Yunani, dan Italia.[4]

Islandia adalah pengimpor pisang terbesar dengan jumlah 14 kg per kapita setiap tahun.[5]
