Post-punk (awalnya disebut new musick)[2] adalah sebuah genre turunan dari musik rok yang muncul pada akhir 1970-an, di mana musisi-musisi pada masa itu meninggalkan kesederhanaan dan tradisionalisme musik punk rock, dan sebagai gantinya mengambil pengaruh dari beragam jenis musik avant-garde, serta musik non-rock. Mereka terinspirasi dari energi punk and etos DIY tetapi berniat untuk mematahkan klise musik rok, kemudian bereksperimen dengan gaya musik seperti funk, musik elektronik, jazz, dan musik dansa; teknik-teknik produksi dari dub dan disko; serta ide-ide seni dan politik, termasuk teori kritis, seni rupa modern, film dan sastra.[3][4] Komunitas-komunitas post-punk ini telah menghasilkan label rekaman independen, karya seni rupa, pertunjukan multimedia dan berbagai fanzine sendiri.

Pelopor awal dari post-punk diwakili oleh berbagai grup musik seperti Siouxsie and the Banshees, Wire, Public Image Ltd, the Pop Group, Cabaret Voltaire, Magazine, Pere Ubu, Joy Division, Talking Heads, Devo, Gang of Four, the Slits, the Cure, dan the Fall.[5] Gerakan dari gaya musik ini berhubungan erat dengan perkembangan dari genre-genre tambahan seperti gothic rock, neo-psychedelia, no wave, dan industrial. Setelah pertengahan-1980an, gerakan post-punk menjadi tidak teratur, tetapi hal ini telah berpengaruh besar dalam menjadi landasan dari gerakan New Pop, serta genre-genre alternatif dan independen lainnya.
