Politik Republik Tiongkok

Republik Tiongkok (bahasa Inggris: Republic of China, ROC) sekarang ini memiliki jurisdiksi di Taiwan, Kinmen, Matsu, dan Kepulauan Pescadores (Penghu) dan beberapa pulau kecil lainnya. Dua kota utama di Taiwan, Taipei dan Kaohsiung, adalah perkotaan yang diperintah pusat. Tempat lainnya di Taiwan dan Penghu diatur bersama sebagai Provinsi Taiwan. Kinmen, Matsu, dan pulau kecil berdekatan lainnya diatur sebagai Fukien "county" .

Sekilas

ROC diperintah di bawah Konstitusi Republik Tiongkok yang dirancang pada 1947 sebelum jatunya Tiongkok Daratan dan menggambarkan pemerintahan untuk seluruh Tiongkok. Sebuah proposal mendasar dikeluarkan untuk memperbaiki Konstitusi tersebut pada 1991, dan ada beberapa interpretasi dibuat untuk menyatakan bahwa konstitusi mencakup wilayah yang jauh lebih kecil dari visi awalnya.

Sampai 1991, pemerintahan di Taipei mengklaim sebagai pemerintahan legal tunggal dari seluruh Tiongkok, termasuk daratan, Tibet, dan Mongolia Luar. Presiden Lee Teng-hui pada 1991 secara tidak resmi meninggalkan klaim pemerintah atas kekuasaan di Tiongkok Daratan, menyatakan bahwa mereka tidak "berdebat atas fakta bahwa Komunis menguasai Tiongkok daratan." Namun, Majelis Nasional belum secara resmi mengganti batas negara, karena dengan melakukan hal tersebut akan dilihat sebagai sebuah pralangkah ke Kemerdekaan Republik Tiongkok. Harus dicatat bahwa Majelis Nasional atau Mahkamah Agung belum menjelaskan bagaimana "batasan negara sekarang". Mahkamah Agung menolak melakukan klaim tersebut dengan alasan hal tersebut merupakan "masalah politik utama".
