Plazi

Plazi adalah asosiasi nirlaba internasional berbasis di Swiss yang mendukung dan mempromosikan pengembangan literatur bio-taksonomi digital yang persisten dan dapat diakses secara terbuka. Plazi adalah salah satu pendiri Biodiversity Literature Repository dan memelihara repositori literatur taksonomi digital ini di Zenodo untuk menyediakan akses ke data FAIR yang dikonversi dari publikasi taksonomi menggunakan layanan TreatmentBank[1], menyempurnakan perlakuan taksonomi yang diajukan dengan membuat versi dalam format XML Taxpub,[2] dan mengedukasi tentang pentingnya menjaga akses terbuka terhadap wacana dan data ilmiah. Plazi adalah kontributor e-taksonomi yang berkembang di bidang informatika keanekaragaman hayati.[3]

Pendekatan ini awalnya dikembangkan dalam program perpustakaan digital National Science Foundation (NSF) dan German Research Foundation (DFG) binasional ke Museum Sejarah Alam Amerika dan Universitas Karlsruhe, masing-masing, untuk membuat skema XML yang memodelkan konten literatur bio-sistematis. Skema TaxonX diterapkan pada publikasi lawas menggunakan GoldenGATE,[4] sebuah editor semiotomatis. Dalam keadaannya saat ini GoldenGATE adalah alat mark up yang kompleks yang memungkinkan keterlibatan masyarakat dalam proses rendering dokumen menjadi dokumen yang disempurnakan secara semantik.

Plazi mengembangkan cara untuk membuat catatan distribusi dalam literatur taksonomi yang diterbitkan dapat diakses melalui layanan TAPIR yang dikompulkan oleh Fasilitas Informasi Keanekaragaman Hayati Global (GBIF).[5] Demikian pula, skema transfer Model Halaman Spesies (SPM) telah diterapkan untuk memungkinkan pengumpulan perlakuan (deskripsi ilmiah spesies dan taksa yang lebih tinggi) oleh pihak ketiga seperti Ensiklopedia Kehidupan (EOL). Saat ini, Darwin Core Archives digunakan untuk mentransfer data perlakuan ke Fasilitas Informasi Keanekaragaman Hayati Global, yang menyediakan 33.623 kumpulan data lebih dari 50% dari semua kumpulan data di GBIF.[6] Jika tersedia, perlakuan ditingkatkan dengan tautan ke database eksternal seperti GenBank, Server Nama Hymenoptera untuk nama ilmiah atau ZooBank, daftar nama zoologi.

Klaim Plazi mematuhi undang-undang hak cipta dan berpendapat bahwa perlakuan taksonomi tidak memenuhi syarat sebagai karya sastra dan seni. Plazi mengklaim bahwa karya-karya semacam itu berada dalam domain publik dan dapat digunakan dan disebarluaskan secara bebas (dengan praktik ilmiah yang membutuhkan kutipan yang sesuai).[7][8]
