Plain White t's (baca: "plain white tees") adalah sebuah band rock Amerika yang berasal dari Lombard, Illinois, yang dibentuk pada tahun 1997 oleh sekelompok murid SMA Tom Higgenson, Dave Tirio, dan Ken Fletcher. Beberapa waktu kemudian, Steve Mast bergabung dengan mereka. Beberapa tahun awal mereka diisi dengan tampil secara underground, dilanjutkan dengan beberapa klub dan bar.[1][2]

Sejarah

Pembentukan (1997-1999)

Plain White T dibentuk di Lombard pada awal tahun 1997. Grup ini dimulai sebagai sebuah trio dengan Higgenson sebagai penyanyi dan gitaris, Fletcher pada gitar bass dan Tirio pada drum.[4] Grup ini kebanyakan menampilkan pertunjukkan punk lokal di pinggiran kota Chicago, yang akhirnya mereka tampil pada berbagai gig di sebuah Metro di lingkungan Wrigleyville, Chicago. Seiring dengan naik daunnya band, anggota keempat direkrut, Steve Mast, yang bergabung sebagai lead guitar dan backing vocal.[5]

Higgenson menderita patah tulang di beberapa bagian dalam sebuah kecelakaan mobil pada tahun 1999[6] saat mengemudi van milik band. Ia diharuskan untuk menggunakan braket selama tiga bulan dan harus belajar berjalan lagi. Come on Over, Stop dan perubahan lineup (1999-2003)

Pada tahun 2000, band ini merekam album pertamanya, yang berjudul Come on Over. Pada tahun 2002, band ini membiayai sendiri proses rekaman Stop, sebuah album penuh yang menarik perhatian dari Fearless Records. All That We Needed (2004-2007)

Big Bad World (2007-2009)

Pada tahun 2008, grup ini merilis album Big Bad World. Album ini memiliki dua single hit: "1, 2, 3, 4" dan "Natural Disaster". Keduanya mendapatkan peringkat di American Top 40 pada nomor 1 dan 2 untuk tiga minggu berturut-turut.[12] Pada akhir tahun 2008, band ini telah bergabung dengan Band Rock Live tour dengan Panic! at the Disco, Dashboard Confessional dan The Cab.[13] Kemudian pada tahun itu, band ini bermain di Give It a Name festival di Inggris.[14] Pada tahun 2007, band ini membawakan single "Our Time Now" pada sebuah episode dari serial televisi Nickelodeon, iCarly. The Wonders of the Younger and Should've Gone To Bed EP (2009–2013)

Single "Rhythm of Love" merupakan single pertama yang dirilis dari album tahun 2010, The Wonders of the Younger. Lagu ini mencapai nomor lima di tangga Hot AC, dan juga termasuk dalam sepuluh besar pada tahun 2010. Pada tahun 2012, band ini juga mengcover lagu milik The Ramones "Pet Sematary" untuk lagu soundtrack film Disney tahun 2012 Frankenweenie.[16] Should've Gone to Bed, EP yang terdiri dari empat lagu, dirilis pada tanggal 9 April 2013.

American Nights (2014–present)

Pada 2015, Plain White T's juga muncul dalam album milik Blues Traveler Blow Up the Moon, dan menjadi co-writer pada lagu "Nikkia's Prom." Pada 22 November 2015, band ini merilis sebuah video musik untuk "American Nights" yang menampilkan anak dari Higgenson, Lennon Higgenson.[19]
