Pisang kipas (Ravenala madagascariensis) adalah anggota dari suku atau jenis pisang-pisangan yang dapat dijadikan tananam hias.[2] Disebut pisang kipas karena bentuknya yang persis seperti kipas.[3] Pisang kipas biasanya juga disebut dengan sebutan pisang madagaskar (diduga berasal dari daerah Madagaskar).[3] Pisang kipas mempunyai nama sains yaitu revenala madagascariensis.[3] Pisang kipas merupakan salah satu dari bagian pisang hias.[3] Pisang termasuk bagian dari tumbuhan monokotil.[3] Monokotil merupakan tumbuhan yang hanya mempunyai satu daun tumbuhan lembaga pada bijinya.[3] Selain itu tumbuhan monokotil juga mempunyai ciri biji berkeping satu, berakar serabut, batang tidak bercabang dan tidak berkambium.[4] Pisang kipas pada umumnya ditanam sebagai tanaman hias yang dapat mempercantik lingkungan.[3] Pisang kipas jarang sekali mengeluarkan bunga dan buah.[3] Di Indonesia terdapat lebih dari 230 jenis pisang.[5] Akan tetapi jenis pisang yang biasanya digunakan atau dijual di pasaran dan umum dikosumsi adalah jenis pisang raja sereh, raja uli, raja bulu, tanduk, mas, ambon lumut, ambon kuning, kapas, kidang, lampung, dan raja molo.[2]
