Philibert Jacques Melotte (29 Januari 1880 – 30 Maret 1961) adalah astronom Inggris yang kedua orang tuanya berasal dari Belgia.[1]

Pada tahun 1908, Melotte menemukan salah satu satelit alami Jupiter yang saat ini dikenal dengan nama Pasiphae. Sebelum menerima nama resminya, satelit tersebut hanya dikenal dengan nama "Jupiter VIII" sampai tahun 1975. Asteroid sabuk utama bagian luar bernama 676 Melitta merupakan satu-satunya asteroid yang ia temukan,[2] dan namanya merupakan bentuk Yunani Attika dari nama Melissa yang berarti lebah dalam bahasa Yunani, tetapi kemiripan namanya dengan nama penemunya bukanlah suatu kebetulan.[3]

Gugus bintang terkemuka di rasi bintang Coma Berenices umumnya dikenal dengan nama Mel 111 karena gugus bintang tersebut muncul di dalam katalog gugus bintang Melotte tahun 1915,[4] tetapi tidak muncul di dalam katalog objek langit dalam Charles Messier yang terkenal atau di dalam New General Catalogue karena gugus bintang tersebut tidak terbukti sebagai gugus bintang sungguhan sampai astronom R J Tumpler membuktikannya pada tahun 1938.[5]

Melotte dianugerahi Medali Jackson-Gwilt oleh Royal Astronomical Society pada tahun 1909. Kumpulan tulisan ilmiahnya kini disimpan di Perpustakaan Universitas Cambridge.
