Perona pipi (disebut rouge, blusher atau blush on dalam bahasa Inggris) adalah kosmetik yang umumnya digunakan oleh wanita untuk memerahkan pipi sehingga memberikan penampilan yang lebih muda dan untuk menegaskan bentuk tulang pipi.

Sejarah

Secara historis, perona pipi telah digunakan sejak zaman Mesir kuno. Awalnya perona pipi juga digunakan pada bibir, mirip dengan penggunaan lipstik sekarang ini. Pada era Victoria, wanita Inggris tidak diperbolehkan mengenakan riasan karena dianggap vulgar dan tidak senonoh. Oleh sebab itu, para wanita terpaksa mencubit pipi dan menggigit bibir mereka untuk membuatnya tampak merah.

Berbagai zat telah digunakan sebagai perona pipi. Di Yunani kuno misalnya, para wanita menggunakan mulberry untuk memerahkan pipi. Bahan lainnya yang digunakan antara lain jus bit merah, stroberi, sirih, dan bayam merah.[1]

Kontemporer

Di zaman modern, perona pipi umumnya berupa talk (bubuk padat) berwarna merah atau merah muda yang disapukan ke pipi dengan menggunakan kuas. Warna merah tersebut biasanya berasal dari zat pada kelopak kesumba atau dari larutan karmin dalam amonium dioksida dan diberi aroma air mawar. Perona pipi yang berbentuk krim terbuat dari schnouda, campuran aloksan dan krim dingin yang membuat warna kulit menjadi merah merona.
