Perjanjian Sykes–Picot yang ditandatangani pada tahun 1916 adalah perjanjian rahasia antar pemerintah Britania Raya dengan pemerintah Prancis[1] yang diikuti dan disetujui oleh Kekaisaran Rusia, di mana dalam perjanjian ini ketiga negara mendiskusikan pengaruh dan kendali di Asia Barat setelah jatuhnya Kesultanan Utsmaniyah pada Perang Dunia I yang telah diprediksi sebelumnya. Perjanjian ini secara efektif membelah daerah-daerah Arab di bawah Kesultanan Utsmaniyah di luar Semenanjung Arab sehingga pada masa depan dapat ditentukan di mana kendali atau pengaruh Inggris atau Prancis akan berlaku.[2] Perjanjian ini ditandatangani pada tanggal 16 Mei 1916[3] dan diberi nama sesuai dengan diplomat Prancis François Georges-Picot dan diplomat Inggris Sir Mark Sykes.

Karena pecahnya Revolusi Bolshevik, Rusia mengundurkan diri dari perjanjian ini.[4] Pada Revolusi Rusia pada bulan Oktober 1917, para pejuang Bolshevik mempublikasikan perjanjian ini dan mempermalukan Inggris, membuat Arab marah, dan Turki senang.[5]
