Perang Saudara Timor Leste

Perang Saudara Timor Leste terjadi di Timor Leste sebelum kedatangan Indonesia pada tahun 1975 yang melibatkan Frente Revolucionaria de Timor Leste Independente (Fretilin) dengan Uni Democratic Timor (UDT). Setelah UDT melakukan kudeta terhadap pemerintah Portugis dan perang saudara selama tiga bulan meletus, banyak politisi dan pendukung UDT lari melintasi perbatasan dan menandatangani petisi tentang penggabungan Timor Timur ke Indonesia.

Sebagian besar loyalis UDT menolak tawaran tersebut karena akan dianggap sebagai pengkhianatan terhadap ideologi dan kepercayaannya sendiri terhadap negara. Ribuan warga Timor Leste diketahui sudah lari dan mengungsi ke wilayah Indonesia di Kabupaten Belu pada perang saudara tersebut.[1]
