Pemilihan awal atau pemilihan cepat (yang terkadang dengan salah kaprah disebut "pemilihan umum awal", "pemilu awal", "pemilihan umum cepat", atau "pemilu cepat") adalah pemilihan yang diselenggarakan lebih awal dari jadwal pemilihan biasanya.

Pemilihan awal dalam sistem parlementer (setelah pembubaran parlemen) umumnya diselenggarakan untuk memanfaatkan peluang yang tidak biasa dalam pemilihan tersebut atau untuk menyelesaikan masalah yang mendesak, dengan syarat bahwa pemilihan tersebut tidak diharuskan oleh hukum atau konvensi. Pemilihan awal ini berbeda dengan pemilihan pelengseran yang diprakarsai oleh politisi (biasanya kepala pemerintahan atau partai yang berkuasa) alih-alih pemilih untuk melengserkan pihak tertentu, serta berbeda juga dengan pemilihan sela yang membentuk parlemen yang sama sekali baru alih-alih mengisi kekosongan dalam dewan yang telah terbentuk.^[1]^[2]
