Pembantaian di Hakkari 1843 dan 1846

Serangkaian pembantaian di Hakkari pada tahun 1843 dan 1846 dari bangsa Asyur dilakukan oleh emir Kurdi yaitu Bohtan dan emirat Hakkari, Bedir Khan Beg, Nurullah. Pembantaian tersebut mengakibatkan terbunuhnya lebih dari 10.000 orang Asyur dan ribuan lainnya ditawan.[1]

Pembantaian 1843

Pada bulan Juli 1843, aliansi Kurdi, yang dipimpin oleh Badr Khan, menyerang orang-orang Asyur di Hakkari, menghancurkan desa-desa mereka dan membunuh banyak dari mereka. Hormuzd Rassam mencoba menggunakan pengaruhnya dengan Vali Baghdad Najib Pasha untuk menekan Badr Khan agar membebaskan para tahanan, termasuk kerabat dekat Patriark Gereja Timur yang sementara itu mengungsi di Mosul.[2][3] Upayanya tersebut hanya berhasil membebaskan sekitar 150 orang, salah satunya adalah saudara perempuan sang patriark, sementara sisanya dibagikan sebagai rampasan perang antara Agha Kurdi dan Mullah.[4]

Pembantaian 1846

Pembantaian lain dilakukan oleh Badr Khan pada tahun 1846. Pembantaian itu mendapat perhatian internasional dari pers Barat. Ini juga membangkitkan politisi Eropa dan opini publik tentang penderitaan orang Kristen. Hal ini menyebabkan negara-negara Eropa menekan Gerbang Agung untuk campur tangan dan menghentikan pembantaian.[1]
