Pegunungan Bintang (bahasa Belanda: Sterrengebergte) adalah sebuah pegunungan di Pulau Papua pada bagian barat Papua Nugini, yang membentang dari perbatasan dengan Papua Pegunungan ke Pegunungan Hindenburg. Daerah ini memiliki curah hujan tahunan lebih dari 10.000 mm/tahun, dan meskipun tidak ada stasiun cuaca ilmiah resmi yang pernah menetapkannya, angka itu telah menyebabkan daerah ini diklaim menjadi salah satu tempat terbasah di bumi.[1] Ekspedisi orang Barat paling awal ke pegunungan ini dipimpin oleh Jan Sneep, seorang pegawai sipil kolonial Belanda yang beroperasi dari Lembah Sibil. Ekspedisi, yang dimulai pada bulan April 1959, memetakan medan dan mengumpulkan data antropologi dari orang-orang yang tinggal di daerah tersebut. Ekspedisi ini menggunakan dua helikopter Bell, tapi ketinggian lokasi ini sangat membatasi efektivitas mereka dan salah satu darinya jatuh, memaksa ekspedisi ini untuk lebih mengandalkan daya manusia secara tradisional. Para pendaki ekspedisi telah mencapai Puncak Mandala pada tanggal 9 September 1959.[2]
