Patlabor atau Mobile Police Patlabor (機動警察パトレイバー, Kidō Keisatsu Patoreibā) merupakan manga dan anime karya Headgear [en] (sebuah tim yang berisi 5 orang yang bekerja dalam produksi anime, di antaranya Mamoru Oshii dan Masami Yuki) pada tahun 1988. Di Indonesia, anime ini disiarkan di stasiun televisi Indosiar pada tahun 1996.

Manga ini bercerita tentang negara Jepang pada tahun 1998 hingga 2002 di saat robot-robot yang disebut "Labors" dipekerjakan untuk pekerjaan berat. Kepolisian Tokyo pun juga memiliki persenjataan menggunakan robot yang disebut Patlabor (Patrol Labors) untuk mengatasi kasus kejahatan yang melibatkan Labor. Manga ini lebih menceritakan tentang kehidupan sehari-hari para anggota polisi Divisi 2 Patlabor, dengan fokus utama pada karakter pilot muda bernama Noa Izumi di Divisi 2, seksi 2.

Pada bulan Oktober 1989 hingga bulan September 1990, studio Sunrise memproduksi serial televisi dengan judul Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor On TV sebanyak 47 episode dengan disutradarai oleh Naoyuki Yoshinaga.

Dua seri OVA Patlabor telah dirilis oleh Sunrise, OVA pertama berjudul Patlabor: The Original Series (Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor), dirilis tanggal 25 April 1988 dan terdiri dari 7 episode. OVA kedua berjudul Patlabor: The New Files, dirilis tanggal 22 November 1990 dan terdiri dari 16 episode. OVA ini merupakan sekuel langsung dari serial televisinya.

Selain itu, tiga buah anime layar lebar juga telah dirilis oleh Sunrise. Anime layar lebar yang pertama berjudul Patlabor 1 - Mobile Police (Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor The Movie), dirilis pada bulan Juli tahun 1989. Anime layar lebar yang kedua berjudul Patlabor 2 (Kidou Keisatsu Patlabor 2 The Movie), dirilis pada bulan Agustus tahun 1993. Dua buah anime layar lebar Patlabor kesemuanya disutradarai oleh Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, 1995) dan diproduksi oleh rumah produksi Production I.G (Ghost in the Shell, Blood: The Last Vampire) dengan musik dari Kenji Kawai (Ghost in the Shell). Anime layar lebar yang ketiga berjudul Patlabor WXIII, disutradarai oleh Fumihiko Takayama dan dirilis pada tahun 2002. Film yang ketiga ini ditayangkan di bioskop Jepang dengan disertai intro sebuah OVA baru yang berjudul Mini Pato.

Plot Cerita

Jalan cerita serial ini mengambil tempat pada masa depan tahun 1998-2002 di dunia fiksi. Robot yang disebut "Labor" digunakan dalam pekerjaan konstruksi berat. Dengan makin meningkatnya penggunaan Labor dalam kehidupan sehari-hari, Polisi Metropolitan Tokyo memiliki divisi khusus yang bertujuan untuk untuk melawan kriminal dan menghadapi kecelakaan yang berhubungan dengan Labor. Divisi khusus tersebut disebut dengan nama Patrol-Labor atau Patlabor. Percabangan ceritanya biasanya berputar disekitar Divisi 2 Patlabor Polisi Metropolitan Tokyo Seksi 2 Kendaraan Khusus. Noa Izumi adalah karakter utama dari serial ini, tetapi semua anggota Divisi 2 memiliki peran masing-masing sesuai dengan jalan ceritanya.

Franchise Patlabor sendiri memiliki cabang jalan cerita yang disebut "garis waktu manga", "garis waktu film bioskop", dan "garis waktu serial televisi". Serial OVA yang berbeda-beda mengikuti garis waktu televisi maupun film.

Live-Action

Pada Tokyo Anime Fair 2013, rumah produksi Tohokushinsha Film Corporation mengumumkan bahwa film live action berdasarkan waralaba Patlabor akan diluncurkan tahun 2014.[1][2] Pada 4 Juli 2013, Mamoru Oshii mengkonfirmasi keterlibatannya di proyek tersebut walaupun tidak menjelaskan perannya.[3]

Berikut istilah-istilah yang sering digunakan dalam serial Patlabor:

Labor (Patlabor)

Robot konstruksi berukuran besar, dengan tinggi berkisar 8 meter. Ada beberapa yang bentuknya humanoid, beberapa labor, khususnya dalam sektor pembangunan, didesain sesuai dengan kebutuhan.[4]

Patrol Labor

Istilah untuk Labor Polisi. Sering disingkat menjadi "Patlabor" atau "Pato", yang juga merupakan istilah untuk mobil polisi di Jepang. Patrol Labor didesain khusus untuk memerangi kejahatan labor.[4]

Advanced Vehicle (AV) Project

Proyek seharga ¥5.67 miliar dari Shinohara Heavy Industries untuk membuat Labor generasi baru untuk kebutuhan polisi dan militer. Di luar dari prototipe awal keluarlah AV-98 Ingram.[4]

Movement Disk (Disk Penggerak)

Perangkat lunak labor belajar dari pengalaman sang pilot. Untuk itu setiap pilot memiliki Disk Penggerak mereka sendiri yang merekam bagaimana cara pilot mengendarai Labor dan pergerakan Labor dan membuat pilot lebih mudah mengendarai Labor lain, karena Disk dan perangkat lunaknya sesuai dengan tiap Labor.[4]

Labor Operating System (LOS)

Perangkat lunak pengoperasian Labor pertama milik Shinohara Heavy Industries. Seperti sebuah komputer, Labor juga memerlukan sebuah perangkat operasi. Dengan perangkat lunak ini Shinohara mampu menguasai pasar Labor.[4]

Hyper Operating System (HOS)

Versi baru dari LOS milik Shinohara Heavy Industries, diluncurkan pada tahun 1999. Kenyataanya perangkat lunak ini terinfeksi oleh virus buatan sang programmer, Eiichi Hoba, yang membuat Labor mengamuk dalam kondisi tertentu.[4] Perangkat ini hanya muncul di film Patlabor: The Movie.

Neuron Network System

Sebuah sistem pengoperasian canggih yang digunakan pada Patlabor AV-0 Peacemaker milik Shinohara. Dengan adanya sistem ini, Labor akan secara otomatis menghindari puing-puing disekitarnya dan mengurangi kerusakan tambahan.[4]

Asura Operating System

Sistem pengoperasian milik Schaft yang digunakan khusus untuk Labor Griffin mereka.[4]

Super Conductor Battery (SCB)

Labor dilengkapi dengan baterai kecil yang dibuat dari bahan superkonduktor yang membuatnya sangat efisien. Namun baterai ini membutuhkan penyimpanan terus-menerus jika digunakan.[4]

Super Conductor Linear Motor

Dibuat khusus untuk Labor, mesin ini menciptakan gaya linear besar dan membuat pergerakan Labor lebih cepat.[4]
