Palapa E

Satelit Palapa E adalah satelit komunikasi milik PT Indosat, sebuah operator telekomunikasi di Indonesia.^[1] Satelit ini dibuat untuk menggantikan satelit Palapa C2 yang telah habis masa orbitnya.^[1] Selain itu, alasan pembuatan satelit ini juga disebabkan teguran pemerintah Indonesia melalui Kementerian Komunikasi dan Informatika (Kemkominfo) terkait pemanfaatan slot orbit satelit di orbit 150.5 Bujur Timur.^[1]

Satelit ini akan diluncurkan pada tahun 2016 dan dibuat serta diluncurkan oleh perusahaan satelit Orbital Sciences.^[2] Mesin satelit atau platform yang digunakan oleh Palapa-E adalah Satelit GEOStar-2 yang terdiri dari transponder pita C standar dan tambahan serta Ku-Band.^[2] Cakupan wilayah yang akan dinaungi oleh satelit ini adalah Indonesia, ASEAN, dan Regional Asia Pasifik.^[2]

"Indosat menyampaikan surat kepada Menteri Komunikasi dan Informatika berisi laporan penandatanganan kerja sama Palapa-E in Orbit Delivery Contract dengan Orbital Science pada tanggal 27 November 2013," demikian siaran pers President Director & CEO Indosat, Alexander Rusli, yang diterima di Jakarta, Sabtu.^[3]
