Orogeni Alpen

Orogeni Alpen adalah sebuah orogeni (proses pembentukan pegunungan) yang terletak di Eropa tengah dan selatan, serta di Asia barat. Fase orogeni ini dimulai pada akhir era Mesozoikum.^[1] Orogeni ini terjadi saat benua Afrika dan Asia (beserta lempeng-lempeng lainnya yang lebih kecil) bergerak ke utara dan bertubrukan dengan Eurasia. Hal ini terjadi di akhir era Mesozoikum, dan perlahan masih berlanjut sampai masa kini.

Tumbukan ini pelahan meremas lempeng Eurasia, menyebabkan pegunungan terbentuk dari ujung jauh barat Asia. Pegunungan-pegunungan yang dihasilkan berada pada sabuk Alpen. Pegunungan-pengunungan tersebut mencakup (dari barat ke timur) Atlas, Rif, Baetic Cordillera, Cantabria, Pirenia, Alpen,^[2]^[3] Apennini, Alpen Dinarik, Hellenid, Karpatia, Balkan, Taurus, Dataran tinggi Armenia, Kaukasus, Alborz, Zagros, Hindu Kush, Pamir, Karakoram dan Himalaya.
